WHAT IS ATTENDANCE MATTERS?
Attendance Matters is a voluntary program offered to those students who have chronic attendance issues or have exceeded their school policy on absences. The goal is to resolve attendance concerns before a student is considered "truant" to avoid legal ramifications.
GOALS OF ATTENDANCE MATTERS
-Provide students with an opportunity to remedy attendance issues to avoid legal proceedings.
-Provide youth and their families with the resources and suport they need to make attendance a priority.Â
-Provide students an opportunity to access resources that will allow them to be successful on their educational journey.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ATTENDANCE MATTERS
- The first step is minimal intervention. Expect a phone call from the Truancy Coordinator.Â
-It is important to understand what is causing poor attendance from the student's view point. Expect that the Truancy Coordinator may visit your child at school.Â
- The second step is more in depth intervention. Expect a meeting with the Truancy Coordinator to create an action plan to target attendance concerns.Â
-If attendance issues persist or intervention is unsuccessful, expect a referral back to the school and potentially on to the County Attorney.
